Coffee Eggnog...a potent potable

I found this recipe in my mother’s recipe box. I don’t recall her ever making it but it is written in her handwriting; perhaps there was an adult party that happened at some point after I was in bed. Or perhaps she just wished that someone would make it for her.

Ingredients:
- 6 eggs separated
- 2 cups of table cream
- ¾ cup superfine sugar (easily dissolved)
- 1 pint ( 2 cups) of milk
- 1 pint ( 2 cups) of light rum
- 3 cups of strong coffee
- 1 cup of brandy
- 1 cup of whipping cream
- a few grains of salt
- nutmeg

Beat egg yolks until thick and lemony in colour. Add the table cream, sugar, milk, rum, coffee, brandy and salt. Beat egg whites until stiff and fold them into the liquid ingredients. Then beat the whipping until stiff and fold it in. Pour the whole thing into a punch bowl and sprinkle with nutmeg.
