Homemade Pizza Made Easy

I much prefer homemade pizza to take-out pizza because I have control over the toppings. I’m particularly fond of items such as artichoke hearts (from a jar), slices of leftover sausages, prosciutto, salami, roasted red peppers, sun-dried tomatoes, olives, green onions, practically any kind of cheese, and arugula. The pantry was a little bit bare when I made the  pizza in the photo above, nonetheless, it tasted good and was very vegetarian.

I do know purists who make their own pizza dough. Huzza. I get mine ready-made at the grocery store……Molinaro’s whole wheat; it comes with its very own package of tomato sauce. http://www.molinaros.com/ourproducts_crusts.html

Pizza Ingredients:
-          one whole wheat prefab pizza crust
-          tomato sauce to cover the pizza in a thin layer (about ½ cup)
-          sliced red onion- ¼ of a small onion or to taste
-          thin strips of roasted red peppers from a jar– ¼ cup or to taste
-          black or green olives- as many as you like
-          grated parmesan cheese- ¼ cup or to taste
-          crumbled feta cheese – ¼ cup or to taste
-          freshly ground black pepper (optional)
-          a drizzle of balsamic vinegar (optional)
-          a drizzle of olive oil (optional)

Pre-heat your oven to 350 degrees F. Place the pizza crust on a cookie sheet. Spread the tomato sauce over the crust, then evenly distribute the rest of the ingredients over the sauce. I generally add the cheese last. Grind a bit of pepper over the top, then drizzle with a little bit of balsamic vinegar and olive oil for added flavour. It may take 15 minutes to bake, depending on your oven,  but is done whenever the cheese becomes gooey.
