Aunt Dorothy's Creamy Fudge

Not sure why I can't take a focused photo with my cell phone camera; perhaps it's the vodka.
I really didn't think that I had the fortitude to make this candy; it takes so much flippin' beating. But fond memories of Aunt Dorothy's fudge compelled me to take a stab at replicating her creamy, sugary holiday treat. For those of you who didn't overdose on sugar over Christmas; here's something to overdose on at your New Year's Eve party.

Ingredients:
- 3 cups brown sugar, pressed firmly
- 1 (15 ounce) tin of sweetened condensed milk
- 1/3 cup of milk
- 1/2 inch slice of butter ( by this Aunt Dorothy means 1/4 cup of butter)
- 2 teaspoons vanilla

Put the first 4 ingredients into a saucepan over a low heat and keep stirring constantly for at least 20 minutes. Turn the heat up a little and keep stirring . Cook the candy until it reaches the soft ball stage ( a drop of candy in a cup of cold water will form a soft 'ball' or you can use a candy thermometer to tell you when you have reached the soft ball stage). Take it off the heat and beat the fudge by hand until it cools somewhat, then add the vanilla. When the candy begins to stiffen, pour into a buttered pan.
