…from Food that Really Schmecks by Edna Staebler. I’m not sure that you can beat an Apple Betty for a wholesome, easy-to-make dessert. Some people might know this recipe as an Apple Crumble or Apple Crisp.
Ingredients:
- 1 quart of sliced apples
- ¾ cup sugar ( I used 1/2 cup and I think that was lots)
- 1 tablespoon flour
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
For the Topping:
- 1 cup of rolled oats
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ½ cup flour
- ¼ teaspoon baking soda
- ¼ teaspoon baking powder
- ¼ cup of melted butter
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F. Peel, core and slice the apples, then mix them with the next 3 ingredients and place them in a buttered baking dish. Combine all of the ingredients for the topping in a medium mixing bowl to make crumbs. Pour the topping over the apple mixture and bake for 35 -40 minutes. This can be served hot or cold with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. It schmecks!
