In 1971, my best friend D. gave me a small book called “The Wit and Wisdom of Oscar Wilde”. (I know...it’s hard to believe that I was reading as an infant and especially, Oscar Wilde, or that I had a best friend for that matter). Anyway, I have been thinking about D. recently and wondering where she is. That's what prompted me to search my bookshelves for this little volume. This is a book of quotations; great material but unfortunately, none of it about food. Oscar Wilde did however, lead quite a spicy life and was always a bit saucy so I think it is appropriate to list a few of his juicy bon mots on this blog. Maybe one a day for a while?
"A man can live three days without water but not one without poetry".
